United Nations: A Big Disappointment To Israel

  In April 1947 (before Israel was created in 1948) at the request of the United Kingdom, which acknowledged its inability to implement the 30 year MANDATE, the General Assembly established a Special committee on Palestine  (UNSCOP) to inquire into the question and submit recommendations.  The report formed the basis  for the Assembly's  Partition Resolution of November 29, 1947, which recommended the establishment in Palestine, of both a Jewish and an Arab state.  Israel as a state was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, on the eve of the day Great Britain ceased control with the 30 year mandate.  This was after the Jewish Homeland had been spoken of and promised on April 24, 1920.  Instead, Britain gave away 80% of this land to Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, a man looking for land to rule.

Michael Davison on Quora gives me the reason:  Creation of the “Emirate of Transjordan” in 1922 solved an immediate problem: the failure of Abdullah bin al-Hussein to secure the throne of Hejaz (now Saudi Arabia), losing his attempt to the ibn Saud clan.

As a consolation prize and as a bribe not to attempt to take the crown of his brother, Faisal I of Iraq and Syria, the Brits created the Emirate of Transjordan from 77% of the Mandate for Palestine, all the land east of the Jordan River (formerly considered “East Palestine”). Western Palestine, the land west of the Jordan River had a separate status, that of a Mandate, where Great Britain was the trustee appointed by the League of Nations to prepare the indigenous people (Arabs and Jews) for eventual self-rule.  

                                        Weizmann and Feisal I  Feisal became King of Iraq and King of Syria in his lifetime.  Weizmann (1874-1952) was 1st President of Israel.  

So Faisal I and Abdullah were brothers!  Faisal had made friends with Chaim Weizmann and they both had attended meetings about Palestine.  Faisal had been for Israel's creation, hoping his Arabs would learn something from them.  

In short, the Emirate of Transjordan was created to put out a diplomatic fire lit by Britain’s failure to support Abdullah in his try for the crown of Hejaz as promised by Lawrence of Arabia.  The UN wanted to divide the remainder of the land between Jews and Arabs and the Jews accepted;   but the Palestinians were against it.  They wanted it all.  Sixty-five years after rejecting the UN partition resolution that would have created a Palestinian state, the Palestinians still do not recognize that peace and statehood will not come through the international community; they are only possible through direct negotiations with Israel.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip, as well as the release of all hostages. 

Israel has said over and over again that they cannot give any extended pauses or cease fires.  Their enemy, Hamas, just would use them to restock their weaponry to use against them.  Over 20 years of fighting has taught Israel this fact.  

Hamas terrorists held a surprise attack on people celebrating life.  They came on foot, on motorcycles, in cars, gliders from the air, all with knives and guns, killing 1,400 innocent people living near the border with Gaza.  They tortured,, burned, decapitated, kidnapped babies and adults, and noticeably not selecting the IDF soldiers but civilians.  They smiled as they enjoyed the torture they were committing.  

There was no condemnation of Hamas. The United States, United Kingdom and Russia abstained.

Instead, all they say leads to the inference and sometimes actual words of condemning Israel.  

I can understand Russia abstaining as they are arming Hamas, no doubt, but the USA and Britain?

Israeli leaders slammed UN Secretary General for saying that the Hamas attack did not occur in a vacuum.  Members of Israel's coalition and opposition took to social media and sharply condemned UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for justifying Hamas' atrocities with some calling for his resignation.  The UN General is António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres GCC GCL, a Portuguese politician and diplomat.

Trump did one great thing for the Jewish people and that was to move the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and that caused all the counties to complain about it.  It was the right thing to do but no one expected Trump to do it and all other presidents had promised but chickened out.  

UN Ambassador Nikki Haley duly vetoed the draft resolution, adding that Washington saw in it "an insult" that "won't be forgotten."  This was said Dec. 18th, 2017,  when the council's 14 non-American members tabled a resolution that said "any decisions and actions, which purport to have altered the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded".  

Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, forcefully defended Israel in the violence at Gaza, potentially widening a rift between the U.S. and allies. She did this many times as the Palestinians set things up and used situations to put the blame on Israel. Often countries just remanded Israel without any reason.   Nimarata Nikki Haley (née Randhawa; born January 20, 1972) is an American politician and diplomat who served as Governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, and as the 29th United States ambassador to the United Nations for two years, from January 2017 through December 2018.  There's the term limits theory that Haley herself referred to in her formal letter of resignation; there's the “I need to earn more money theory,” particularly after years of public service; and then there's this: In the post- Kavanaugh hearings era, it's not wise to be too closely identified with a president who mocks ...I believe she's referring to Trump's methods of speaking about people.  

Over the past five decades, the United States has vetoed at least 53 UN Security Council resolutions critical of Israel.  Out of 225 listed, here's a few since 2005:

1. Resolution 1583 (28 January 2005) calls on Lebanon to assert full control over its border with Israel. It also states that "the Council has recognized the Blue Line as valid for the purpose of confirming Israel's withdrawal pursuant to resolution 425."
2. Resolution 1648 (21 December 2005)
3. Resolution 1701 (11 August 2006) called for the full cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
4. Resolution 1860 (9 January 2009) called for the full cessation of war between Israel and Hamas.
5. Resolution 2334 (23 December 2016) called for an end to Israeli settlement building
