Biden and His Abie's Irish Rose Connection Story

 Nadene Goldfoot

Family attending Beau Biden's Funeral (1969-2015) who was the oldest of the two sons, Beau and Hunter, died from brain cancer.

Surprisingly, President Joe Biden has Jewish relatives — of which there are several.  In fact, all three of his kids, BeauHunter and Ashley,  married into Jewish families — which means Biden is the grandfather of some pretty adorable Jewish kids. I even found President Biden's wife, Jill may have had a Jewish-connected mother with maiden name of Jacobs.

President Joe Biden (Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden Jr.) was born on November 20, 1942, at St. Mary's Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Parents: Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Biden (née Finnegan; July 7, 1917 – January 8, 2010)[45] and Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. (November 13, 1915 – September 2, 2002), who married in 1941.  Of Joe Biden's sixteen great-great grandparents, ten were born in Ireland. He is descended from the Blewitts of County Mayo and the Finnegans of County Louth. One of Biden's great-great-great grandfathers was born in Sussex, England, and emigrated to Maryland in the United States by 1820.

Interesting that our president with strong Irish-Catholic roots, has grandchildren with Jewish roots.    He's trying to erase anti-Semitism in the USA -, at least make a bigger dent in it than has been taking place since it has grown so much.

President Joe Biden has married twice and fathered four children, Robert Hunter Biden, in the news lately,  being the 2nd son. His seven grandchildren come from his two sons,    two from Beau, the 1st son and five from Hunter.

                     Hunter's Jewish Connection

Robert Hunter Biden was born on February 4, 1970, in Wilmington, Delaware. He is the second son of Neilia Biden (née Hunter) and Joe Biden. Hunter Biden's mother and younger sister Naomi were killed in an automobile crash on December 18, 1972, when he was only 2 years old.   Biden and his older brother Beau were also seriously injured but survived. Beau suffered multiple broken bones while Hunter sustained a fractured skull and severe traumatic brain injuries. Both spent several months in the hospital, when their father was sworn into the U.S. Senate in January 1973.

Beau and Hallie Biden nee Olivere Berger.

First son, Beau, who has died,  was married to Hallie Biden and had two children, Natalie and Robert "Hunter" Biden II, before his death from brain cancer in 2015.  Hallie's mother, Joan, had the Jewish connection.

1.  Hallie Olivere, now Hallie Biden, who was the wife of Joe’s oldest son, Beau.  Olivere was born on July 6, 1973, in Greenville, Delaware to Louis Ronald "Ron" Olivere and Joan Berger. Her mother, who was a childhood friend of Joe Biden, owned a drycleaning business. She is of Jewish background, the former Delaware AG who died of cancer in 2015 was Jewish.   Joe Biden has known Olivere’s Jewish mother, Joan Olivere nee Berger, since they were kids — he once joked that he had a crush on her as a kid: “I was the Catholic kid. She was the Jewish girl. I still tried. I didn’t get anywhere,” Biden said at a Jewish event in Delaware in 2015.  Hallie Olivere,  and Beau married in 2002 and had two children, Natalie, 16, and Hunter, 14.

Hunter and wife, Kathleen Biden nee Buhle

Hunter Biden and his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, had three children together: Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy. He had another son, Beau, with his wife Melissa Cohen, whom he married in 2019.

Like his father and brother, Robert Hunter Biden attended Catholic high school Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Georgetown University in 1992. During the year after he graduated from college, he served as a Jesuit volunteer at a church in Portland, Oregon, and met Kathleen Buhle, whom he married in 1993. After attending the Georgetown University Law Center for one year, he transferred to Yale Law School and graduated in 1996.

Robert Hunter Biden began a relationship with Hallie Olivere Biden, widow of his brother Beau, in 2016. The relationship ended by 2019.Hallie and Hunter Biden — Beau’s younger brother — dated between 2015 and 2019, with the support of the Bidens and Hallie’s parents.

Hallie Buhle worked as a lobbyist and investment manager. In July 1992, (when aged 23) she met Hunter Biden, son of then-senator Joe Biden and Neilia Hunter Biden, while the two were working as Jesuit volunteers at a Catholic church in Portland, Oregon.and she ]became pregnant three months into their relationship, and the two married in July 1993. Biden and Buhle moved to Washington, D.C., She gave birth to their first daughter, Naomi King Biden, on December 21, 1993.

In 2015,Kathleen  Buhle and Robert Hunter Biden formally separated due to Biden's infidelity, alcoholism and drug addictions. On December 9, 2016, Buhle filed for a divorce, and on February 23, 2017, she filed a motion in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, seeking to freeze Biden's assets.

2. Robert Hunter Biden in 2019,  married Melissa Cohen.  They have had a son. Biden had married South African filmmaker Melissa Cohen in May 2019, within a week after first meeting her. Their child, a son, was born in March 2020 in Los Angeles.

President Biden's 2nd Wife with Connection

Jill Jacobs Stevenson became their stepmother in 1977. Biden's half-sister Ashley was born in 1981.  Ashley married a Jewish doctor. She is married to physician Howard Krein.

Jill's family-her maiden name had been Giacoppo (or some variation thereof); before his father, and others in the family, had emigrated from the Sicilian village of Gesso [it] in Italy.  The surname Giacoppo came from the Italian form of the biblical patriarch, Jacob. The name had then been changed to Jacobs, about a month after the family had entered the United States.  Why?  Jacobs is a Jewish surname.  Did I just find another connection? Only DNA will tell.

A variety of distinguished and notable names have emerged from the beautiful and historical Italian region of Tuscany, including the notable surname Giacoppo. During the Middle Ages, as populations grew and travel between regions became more frequent, the people of Tuscany, who were originally known only by a single name, found it necessary to adopt a second name to identify themselves and their families. This process of adopting fixed hereditary surnames in Italy began in the 10th and 11th centuries, but it was not completed until the modern era. The development of Italian hereditary surnames followed general principles and were characterized by derivatives from one's given name. The patronymic surname, which is derived from the father's given name, was one of the most common name types found in the region of Tuscany. This system of name-making was widely used because it linked well with the existing Feudal System and during the Christian era, many people named their children after saints and biblical figures. The surname Giacoppo came from the Italian form of the biblical patriarch, Jacob. Florence is part of Tuscany.  In 1799, emancipation came to the Jews of Florence from Napoleonic forces who occupied the city. In 1848, the ghetto was abolished and the Jews of Florence were given civil rights under a new constitution. By 1861, the Jews were given full citizenship and the ghetto was leveled to make room for urban renewal. DNA should give her more information.

Update: 8/7/23 Abie's Irish Rose is a popular comedy by Anne Nichols, which premiered in 1922. Initially a Broadway play, it has become familiar through repeated stage productions, films and radio programs. I thought it had also made it to TV, maybe in late 50's or 60s. Perhaps not.  The basic premise involves an Irish Catholic girl and a young Jewish man who marry despite the objections of their families.

Starting in 1922, it was showing how assimilation in the USA was taking place, by marriage between religions.
