ANATEVKA, Ukraine — Less than 20 miles outside of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, there’s a little village inspired by Fiddler on the Roof that is playing an outsize role in the political scandal embroiling Washington, thanks to a cast of characters that includes the village’s honorary mayor.  And who’s he?  None other than Rudolph W. Giuliani, who was recently presented with an oversize ceremonial key to the village by its pro-Trump rabbi founder.

Anatevka, named after the village from the musical, was founded in 2014 by Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman, primarily as a refuge for Jewish families displaced by Russia’s five-year war against Ukraine in the country’s eastern Donbass region that has killed around 13,000 people.

Anti-Semitism has been going on in the eastern European countries for centuries.  People of today ask why  this is, and conclude that Jews must have been despicable people to earn such hatred.

St Constantine developed from being the Roman Emperor  at the nudging of his mother, Helena.

Here's the facts as to why this has gone on for the past 2,000 years.  Ever since Europe converted to Christianity from their Romanized-held polytheistic beliefs in Olympus and their multiple gods with a king and queen of gods and with gods coming down on earth and taking women of the earth, producing half gods, they have regarded Jews, the only people on earth to maintain their belief in a one unseen G0d, as the "Christ Killer", an enemy and a threat to be treated as such.

The Europeans took the position that Jews were to be converted and so to be "saved", or to be killed, and least of all, to be expelled, or to be put to death with sword and fire.

In 866, the fight between early Christians and Heathens was fought between early England and the Vikings who had invaded.  This is depicted in THE LAST KINGDOM on Netflix.

The treatment of Jews by the people of eastern Europe, the Polish and Lithuanians,  wasn't much different from the outlook of early Christians.

(born November 10, 1483, Eisleben, Saxony [now in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany]—died February 18, 1546, Eisleben), German theologian and religious reformer:  Martin Luther, founder of the Lutheran Protestants, set out in his trying to convert Jews, with his "honest advice", how Jews should be treated in their communities.

1. Their synagogues should be set on fire, and whatever does not burn up should be covered or spread over with dirt so that no one may ever be able to see a cinder or stone of it.

2. Jewish homes should be broken down or destroyed.

3. Jews should then be put under one roof, or in a stable, like Gypsies, in order that they may realize that they are not masters in our land.

4. They should be put to work, to earn their living by the sweat of their noses, or, if regarded even then as too dangerous, these "poisonous bitter worms" should be stripped of their belongings which they have extorted usuriously from us and driven out of the country for all time.

Martin Luther was the catalyst of the 16th-century Protestant Reformation. Through his words and actions, Luther precipitated a movement that reformulated certain basic tenets of Christian belief and resulted in the division of Western Christendom between Roman Catholicism and the new Protestant traditions, mainly LutheranismCalvinismAnglicanism, the Anabaptists, and the anti-Trinitarians. He is one of the most influential figures in the history of Christianity.

Quite a show of Christian humility and love, eh?      They no more understood the message brought to the masses by the story of Jesus than understanding the man in the moon.  To them it was a tool to use as becoming racists.  They hated Gypsies and Jews and Vikings and killed them for their differences.  .

This is only typical of the anti-Jewish venom of his time.  Mass expulsion was a commonplace of medieval policy.  Jews had already been driven out of almost every European country including England, France, Spain, Portugal and Bohemia, with more following.  In Italy Jews were confined to the ghetto with Venice having the first one.  Tsarist Russia confined Jews in the Pale of Settlement, and so expulsion and oppression continued until the 19th century.

Even when attitudes were softening,, no decade passed without Jews in one European state or another  being accused of murdering Christian children in order to use their blood in the baking of Passover bread.  This "blood libel"  came as it did with outbursts of popular violence against Jews, reflected deep prejudices which no amount of modernity or liberal education seemed able to overcome.  Even the knowledge that Jews were not to   injest any type of blood, animal or human, unlike all other people did not stop the accusations. That's part of our Kashrut laws, handed down from Moses over 3,000 years ago.

Finally, today's findings of 2022,  have a Jew as president of Ukraine,  though fighting for his life, with Russia out to kill him.

Volodymyr Zelensky,  Jewish  with Jewish parents , was born in the industrial metropolis of Kryvyy Rih in southern Ukraine. A Jewish boy is to circumcised at 8 days old, and bar mitzvahed at age 13.  Russia is a country outlawing religion, so if his parents  were able to bring this about, it's a miracle.

It was his fellow Jews who were against his running as president.  "They said, ‘He should not run because we will have pogroms here again in two years if things go wrong,’” said Rabbi Kaminezki, the chief rabbi in Dnipro, the capital of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region."  Well, 3 years have gone by and the problem is not with Zelensky being Jewish.  It's with  Russia's Putin and his goals of being like the old Russian Czars.  This has been the Jewish attitude about "not mixing in."  Jews have been accused of creating bad weather, things they have not been involved in at all.  To take on the role of President has been a brave and amazing act; which worked so well on TV that he took the chance that it would in reality.

"When Zelensky was a small child, his family relocated to ErdenetMongolia, for four years before returning to Kryvyy Rih, where Zelensky entered school. Like many people from Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, he grew up as a native Russian speaker, but he also acquired fluency in both Ukrainian and English.  He's trilingual, as many are in this part of the world. If he could read Hebrew, he'd be almost quadralingual.   In 1995 he entered Kryvyy Rih Economic Institute, the local campus of Kyiv National Economic University, and in 2000 he graduated with a law degree."

He was a Ukrainian actor and comedian who was elected president of Ukraine in 2019. Although he was a political novice, Zelensky’s anti-corruption platform won him widespread support, and his significant online following translated into a solid electoral base. He won a landslide victory over incumbent Petro Poroshenko in the second round of the 2019 presidential election.

Zelensky didn't run for safety, but he and his wife remain in Kiev leading their brave people to fight for their country.  He's putting himself in front of hungry lions by doing this, and the risk is high that he will be assassinated by the Russian invading army.
