The Case Against Fatah and Hamas

Nadene Goldfoot
Yassir Arafat (1929 in Cairo, Egypt) leader of PLO,
organized Fatah in 1959, really active after 1967,
caused their expulsion from Jordan in 1970 with Black September,
ousted from Lebanon by Israel in 1982, and he supported Saddam Husssein
in 1991 Gulf War.  PLO proclaimed a Palestinian state with Arafat as president in 1988.
He died November 11, 2004 at age 75.
The PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) had morphed back  into Fatah, and out of Fatah came Hamas, the more violent level of Fatah.  Now Fatah is morphing into Hamas and has become fighters using violence once again.
Fatah and Hamas united after many feuds in 2007.
They continue this on and off relationship fighting over control.

1920 Mandate of Palestine held by British

The PLO was a rebellious group against the UN dictum of accepting Israel as a nation in the Middle East once again.  It was created by the Arab League with Yasser Arafat at the helm.  Arafat was not an Arab born in Palestine, but someone born in Egypt.  It was officially established in 1964 when a covenant was adopted equating  the borders of their plan of a Palestine State with  the Palestine of the British Mandate which included the STATE OF ISRAEL!.  There was no plan of a 2 state solution.  They intended to take everything.  They still do!  Fatah is again in bed with Hamas.

The Arab League had set up terrorist groups in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.  Their host countries gave them the support they needed.  They included groups like the "Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine" run by George Habash, and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine" run by Nayef Hawatmeh.   These groups developed after the 6 Day War since such a war that lasted from June 5th to June 11th in 1967 with Syria, Egypt and the Soviet Union spreading false reports to the world that the Israeli forces were on the Syrian frontier and they weren't.  Even the UN countered their report that no such concentrations existed.  Egypt had reported these lies so they could use the pretext for concentrating the bulk of its army in the Sinai.  They had stationed there 90,000 men and 900 tanks.  Then Egypt demanded that the UN Emergency Force withdraw.  They were the barrier between Egypt and Israel, and they complied with Egypt!  Egypt then closed the Staits of Tiran to all going to Israel AND THEN THEY CALLED FOR WAR!

EGYPT led their team of Arab states who had formed a war pact against Israel.  Armies of JORDAN, IRAQ  and SYRIA concentrated their forces along the frontiers with Israel.

All this was seen by Israel who waited for 3 weeks starting on the 15th of May 1967 for some international action to stop the Arab escalation and stop the threat along the frontiers.  No one did a thing.  The UN and the GREAT POWERS OF THE WORLD were inept; frozen to act.  WAR BROKE OUT ON THE 5TH OF JUNE 1967.  Israel defended itself, alone, against more than 250,000 troops, armed with Soviet-supplied tanks and aircraft.  The Iraqi defense minister ordered his troops to STRIKE THE ENEMY'S CIVILIAN SETTLEMENTS (note that he couldn't call a city a city-just a settlement) TURN THEM INTO DUST AND PAVE THE ARAB ROADS WITH THE SKULLS OF JEWS.  Israel used its head and preempted them-after 3 weeks of waiting- and the war became a defensive war and they manged to capture  (JUDEA AND SAMARIA) West Bank, FROM JORDAN, GAZA AND THE SINAI PENINSULA FROM EGYPT, AND THE GOLAN HEIGHTS FROM SYRIA.   That's what happens when you mess around with Israel!

The Knesset (seat of government) since 1949  is in Jerusalem
but no nation will recognize this fact. It's permanent building was created
in 1966.
In 6 days, Israel destroyed the armies that had massed and menaced their vital centers of their teeny country.  Cease-fire lines were established along the Suez Canal, the Jordan River and the Golan Heights.  The Straits of Tiran were once again open to navigation.  JERUSALEM WAS RE-UNITED AFTER BEING DIVIDED  INTO TWO PARTS SINCE 1948.  THE ISRAEL SECTION INCLUDED THE WHOLE OF THE WEST AND SOUTH PART OF THE NEW CITY, INCLUDING MOUNT ZION AND AN ENCLAVE ON MT. SCOPUS.  THE CITY EXTENDED WESTWARD BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE KNESSET AND GOVERNMENT QUARTER (HA-KIRYAH) WITH THE NATIONAL MUSEUM AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUS NEARBY.

Dancing the Hora at the wall 1967
AT THE OUTSET OF THE 6 DAY WAR OF JUNE 5TH, JORDANIAN TROOPS IN THE OLD CITY AND JORDANIAN SECTIONS OF THE CITY BOMBARDED THE NEW CITY.  2 DAYS LATER THE ENTIRE CITY CAME UNDER ISRAEL CONTROL.  THE FIRST THING DONE BY ISRAELI SOLDIERS WAS TO VISIT THE WESTERN WALL.-PROHIBITED TO JEWS FOR AMOST 20 YEARS.

ON JUNE 29, 1967, THE ISRAEL GOVERNMENT FORMALLY UNITED THE 2 SECTIONS OF THE CITY AND THE BARRIERS THAT HAD DIVIDED THEM WERE REMOVED. THE POPULATION OF THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE CITY-INCLUDING 139,600 MOSLEMS AND CHRISTIANS, HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THE TOTAL POPULATION OF 493,500 IN 1990.

How did such a teeny country as Israel win a massive war when 4 large Arab states had attacked them together?  Obama has been trying to change the outcome for the Arabs since then in pushing Netanyahu to go back to 67 "lines."

USA War-Germany 1941-1945
I remember when the USA was fighting 2 countries at the same time; Germany and Japan.  Israel was fighting against 4 who were on their borders:    not far away!!  And why did these 4 attack Israel?  Because the Arab League had been unsuccessful before in 1948 when Israel had no army, and again in 1956.  They thought the 3rd time would be the charm.  It wasn't.  Not for them, at least, but this war did get back Jerusalem that the Jews had been denied from after the British had gone back on their word of helping the Jews to create their Jewish Homeland out of the unwanted Palestine.

Husseini in Germany making deadly deals with Hitler about the Jews.  Nazism has left its mark on the Arabs in that
they as a group read more Nazi material than other
people and hold it in high regard still, as a case against Jews. .
From the very beginning, the Arabs, who were following the Sherif of Jerusalem who was Haj Amin al-Husseini (1893-1974) , known as the Grand Mufti, rebelled at the thought of Jews returning to their native land.  This Grand Mufti finally had accessed some power through a Jew, mind you, Sir Herbert Samuel,  who was the high commissioner of the Brits who held the 30 year mandate of Palestine  who had selected him over others in 1921 to be   head of the Supreme Moslem Council.

King Feisal
The Mufti's antithesis, Emir Feisal , was an educated and broader minded Arab who had accepted the Jews' return-with reservations, and those were that he also received a kingly position if the Jews returned, for he was from Arabian royalty, and he did.  He became the King of Iraq (1921)  and then the King of Syria.   Feisal had met the Jewish Dr. Weizmann in Transjordan in 1918 and again in Paris in 1919 where they reached an agreement on mutual aid, conditional on the implementation of the British promises to the Arabs.  The the sky fell in when the French, who controlled the Syrian mandate, kicked him out of Syria in 1920!  He ended up being influenced by the Palestinian Arab leaders such as Husseini, and his attitude to Zionism, the return of the Jews, became hostile.

Zionism comes from the word, Zion.  Zion was the word the Prophets used for Jerusalem.  It's a spiritual symbol to Jews.  Back in the Maccabean times, Mt. Zion was identified with the Temple Mount and the City of David (Jerusalem) together.   The Maccabean times goes back to Judah, son of Mattathias, a military leader of the revolt against Syria in 168 BCE.  It also refers to the Hasmonean dynasty as a whole.  This is the period we remember during Chanukah, our December holiday that so often is close to the Christian Christmas.   To be Zionistic is to accept the idea that Jews are finally getting their 2,000 year old prayers answered for the return  to Israel after having lost Jerusalem in 70 CE.  This is an event prophecized by prophets and has come true.  As we see, many have not accepted it.  Thus we see groups like the PLO, Fatah and Hamas.  Yes, I believe Israel had been aided by our higher power.  They have seen it happen over and over again since its conception once more in 1948.
 Such odds!

After the Six Day War led by Yasser Arafat, The PLO went on a program of terror inside Israel and around the world.  Arafat supported Saddam Husseini in the 1991 Gulf War.

Fatah's Mahmoud Abbas came on the scene when Arafat died as
leader in 2004.  Also known by the kunya Abu Mazen, is the President of the State of Palestine and Palestinian National Authority. Born on March 26, 1935 in Safed, Palestine-now Israel.  EducationDamascus University,  Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.
Since 1974 they have held Observer Status in the UN, giving them power.
The PLO was considered by the United States and Israel to be a terrorist organization until the Madrid Conferencein 1991.

In 1993, the PLO recognized Israel's right to exist in peace, accepted UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 338, and rejected "violence and terrorism"; in response, Israel officially recognized the PLO as the representative of the Palestinian people.  Now they have brought it back.  Over these past years, the PLO has carried out thousands of attacks against Israeli and others around the world, including the 1st airplane hijackings. It was Fatah in 1972 who carried out the Munich Massacre of 11 members of the Israeli Olympic Team.  They are now practing was games in another planned attack on Israel.

Palestinian Authority,  President Mahmoud Abbas,  held a rare meeting with the heads of rival party Hamas in Qatar on Thursday, in direct talks aimed at ending years of hostility between the two movements.

Ever since their group picture, they have been at odds with each other, which

is why Israel can't get along with them.  They can't get along with each other past the sweets table!

This is the typical reason why individual countries in the Middle East had been fighting against each other for years.  They fought for power.  A state of Palestine next door to Israel is
to be something fought over by these rival terrorists.  Both want the same thing:  Israel's land.

The ongoing attack of Hamas against Israel:  "Israel Air Force (IAF) aircraft attacked Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip on Monday, October 24, 2016  in response to a rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists at Israel’s civilian population earlier in the day.  Israel has vowed to answer rocket attacks thusly.
