Peace Talks of 2 Days and Israel's 2nd Holy City, Hebron, is Threatened

Nadene Goldfoot

Hebron is a large city in Judea, lying only 19 miles south of Jerusalem.  It is in land that the Palestinians want as their state.  Judea and Samaria as well as East Jerusalem were won back after being taken illegally in 1948 by Jordan.  Jordan made the mistake of complying with the other Arab nations when they attacked Israel in 1967.  The Arabs lost and Israel was able to claim the return of their promised land which was part of the already decided Jewish National Homeland.

250,000 Arabs live there and about 800 Jews.  The Arabs live in section H1 which has been controlled or ruled by the PA, and the old city, H2, which makes up 20% of Hebron, is where the Jews live.  In the bible, Hebron is also called Kiriath Arba.

Abraham had bought a plot of land called the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron from the Hittites so he had a place to bury his wife, Sarah.  Today a mosque stands there.  Muslims came around 630 CE and were in control then.  Joshua was appointed by Moses to lead the Israelites and it became a Levitical city, a city of refuge.  King David ruled there for 7 1/2 years before deciding on Jerusalem to be his capital.  Jews have maintained a community in Hebron through the Byzantine, Arab, Mameluke and Ottoman Empire.  It has been one of 4 holy cities in Israel;  Jeusalem, Hebron, Tiberias and Safed.  By 1890, there were 1,500 Jews who had yeshivot and religious schools established there.  In 1925, the great Lithuanian yeshivah of Slobodka was transferred there.

Along came 1929 when the stock market crashed in the USA.  It was then that the Arabs massacred 700  Jews in Hebron and then most of the survivors fled to Jerusalem.   30 families returned in 1931.  Arab rioting occurred in 1936 when it was known that Jews were facing anti-Semitism in Germany. There were 38,310 Jews living in Hebron in 1967 before the attack on Israel and afterwards, with Israel being the victor, more settled in Hebron creating Kiryat Arba, a new quarter east of the city.  There were 3,700 Jews in 1988.

Hebron's spokesman, David Wilder, has been an official for the city's Jewish community for about 18 years and has never said that in order for Jews to continue living in Hebron, the city must be rid of its Arab population.  However, this is how Abbas (Abu Mazen), president of the Palestinian Authority,  has said  about taking over Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem.  He doesn't even mention "east" Jerusalem in his comments. He said, "In a final resolution, we would not see the presence of a single Israeli-civilian or soldier-on our lands.

In 2010 he was quote as saying to reporters in Ramallah, "We have frankly said, and always will say:  If there is an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, we won't agree to the presence of one Israeli in it."

This is what we have to look forward to thanks to John Kerry and our United States partnership, who must know more than I do for pushing this peace discussion with such belligerent folk.  It's getting nauseating already.

Does Kerry and Obama realize that Mahmoud Abbas, the man 55 year old Tzippi Livni, Israeli negotiator who is the newly appointed Minister of Justice, has to talk to, honored a terrorist leader with their "Star of Honor" decoration for Jewish killings in the 1970's ?  Nayef Hawatmeh is the leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DELP.  They were the group that carried out many deadly terrorist attacks like the killing of 22 schoolchildren and 4 adults after taking them hostage in Ma'alot.  They killed 9 children and 3 adults in an attack on a school bus.  This group is responsible for killing 7 more people in a Jerusalem bombing.  An apartment building in Beit Shean was attacked and 4 people were taken hostage by the DELP terrorists who then killed them.

50 Jews had been shot by Arab on their own street.  Among those shot was a baby that was targeted by sharpshooters in it's baby carriage.  This is the sort of people that the Palestinians are-to shoot a baby on purpose is unfathomable. For such behaviors, they are honored by their leaders.

In order to give in to Palestinian demands which seem okay to Kerry, Israel is forced to release killers out of prison.  Israel has kowtowed to such demands in the past and has learned what happens.  6,912 militant terrorists were released because of such demands between the years of 1993 and 1999.  About 80% have returned to terrorist activity.  Released killers have killed 177 Israelis.

David Wilder feels that Hebron, Beit El, Elon Moreh, then Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva and Haifa are cities that the Palestinians will want to take over.  This goes along with the charter of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.  Speeches from the Palestinians are very direct about it.  Faisel Husseini, their former Palestinian leader who died in 2001 had declared, "Our final aim is the liberation of all of historical Palestine, from the river to the sea, even if the conflict continues for a thousand years, or for many more generations."  Husseini thought that the Oslo accords were a "Palestinian Trojan horse that created the PLO and Yasser Arafat in the territories.  To him this worked as an ambush of sorts that paved the way to the present Intifada.

These are not nice people just wanting to move into the next door apartment and are being stopped because they all speak Arabic, which is about the only situation that Americans have dealt with in their environment.  The UN and the USA could have been much more realistic and could have put themselves in Israel's shoes to understand what they are expecting.

David mentions  in his essay of yesterday, "No 'rules' or 'red lines', that if it is called "racism" to talk about transfer or expulsion of Arabs, it's the same thing to talk about doing it to Jews.  If John Kerry thinks it's okay to talk about moving Jews off of their legal land, Jews could also talk about moving Arabs.  If Israel can't eject Arabs, you also can't eject Jews off of their legal land.  This goes for the whole state of Israel.  It's not up for grabs.

How can Kerry sit there and listen to talk of creating this new Palestine which would be free of all Jews when Israel without any outside pressure never thought of creating their state exclusive of Arabs.  There are 1.7 million Arabs living in Israel as full citizens.  They are in the Knesset and Parliament.

Israel has had to deal with a few lemons.   "There are Arab MKs that even represent Hamas, Hizballah, Syria and the PA working passively and actively against the State of Israel."  MK Haneen Zoabi, an Arab, was a participant on the Gaza flotilla Mavi Marmara.  He helped terrorists who were trying to kill the Israeli soldiers whose job it was to board and inspect.   Former MK Azmi Bishara ran away from Israel just before being arrested for treason for passing military secrets to the enemy during the war in Lebanon.  MK Ahmad Tibi  told his peers that he was a Palestinian patriot whether you like it or not. This is much harsher than what the Democrats and Republicans have had to deal with in Congress.  If these are citizens, what in the world will life be like with Palestinians taking over East Jerusalem 9 months from now?

We all wonder why it is that the EU, UN or any other group condemning Abbas for the Palestinian goals for their new state.  Is this now the accepted norm for states?  Anything that is decided on during these 9 months must be voted on by the Israeli public and they are not going to abide by such demented outcomes.  Tsippi Livni not only has to appease or please the Palestinians, but she will be wasting everyone's time if she doesn't know her own people's fears and expectations.  Israelis have learned from past mistakes.  It's insanity to keep on repeating them. David Wilder has summed it all up.

Rule #1:  There are no rules.  There aren't any red lines.  Anything and everything goes.

Everything can also come to Hebron, such as tourism today.  Dr. Oz, a Muslim, and his friend, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach danced the hora in Hebron in their first visit to Israel. That's a very happy dance done in weddings and bar mitzvas.    Dr. Oz is the author of many books as well as is a TV personality in the USA.  We'll all dance the hora if nothing happens to Hebron.  Right now the community probably feels like mourning .

This ancient Holy Jewish city is being threatened by the future Judenrein state of Palestine's creation.  Jews have lost a lot of blood over this city and it will not cede it easily.  The demands of a Palestine are outragous and completely unnecessary.  This city has been safe even for tourism since it is under Israel's dominion once again where the PA are controlling the government.   Israel has been living  with 1.7 million Arabs.  Why can't the Palestinians live with Jews?     Even Egypt has realized that Muslim Brotherhood goals are not workable.
