Why East Jerusalem Should Not be Palestine's Capital

Nadene Goldfoot
Gilo, suburb neighborhood of Jerusalem outside of Old City

Today I'm going to say that the sky must be falling.  It's time to run and tell the king.  I'm joining Chicken Little in her panic mode.  The Palestinians are submitting their statehood resolution today, and we already know how many countries are in agreement with them.

The answer just came in.  "

UNSC rejects resolution on Palestinian state

Bid to end Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories by 2017 garners eight votes, one short of total needed to pass.  This is from al-Jazeera.  "Washington said it could not support the draft because it was not constructive and failed to address Israel's security needs."

This "Palestine" happens to be the enemy of Israel.  How nice of the world to produce a state next to Israel with the intent to destroy her.  They are claiming East Jerusalem as their capital which has been unified with the rest of Jerusalem since 1967's War.  In other words, they are demanding 1/4 of Jerusalem as their own.

Their idea of a Palestine, which the European countries are so in agreement with, is to be all Arab-NO JEWS ON THE LAND.  This is Apartheid, which the uneducated claim that Israel practices without admitting that there are 1.7 million Arabs as citizens of Israel, being able to participate in all manner of life.  With such people, it's okay to practice apartheid on Jews.  All this is so obvious anti-Semitic behavior that it behooves me how intelligent people cannot accept this fact!

I think, who's idea was it anyway that there should be an Arab Palestine?  The Arabs weren't interested in such a concept UNTIL after 1967 with the goading of the USA and Arab leaders.  In 1800 there were only 246,300 Arabs in Palestine.  They started coming from surrounding states in the late 1800's to get work with the Jews who were building then.  By 1922 there were 590,890 Arabs.  Today, there are 1.7 million Arabs who are Israeli citizens.

Since 1948, Israel's governments have been on a quest for peace in their policies with the Arabs, but the policy of the Arab States was diametrically opposite to Israel's.  The Arabs refused to recognize Israel's existence and would not reconcile themselves to the fact that they were there.   They would not give up the idea of destroying Israel, even when they knew they lacked the power to do so.  On the political level they constantly worked on bringing about Israel's isolation in the family of nations.  They used the anti-Semitic bent of so many of the nations.  On the military level they continued to build up the ability of this aim, using donated money they received towards weaponry to use against Israel.  On the economic level they worked on the policy of boycotting Israel which so many  Christian religious groups are a part of.  On the propaganda level, they continue to teach hatred in their schools and their people, using anti-Semitic stereotypes,  literature with the aim of destroying Israel.  The borders of Israel they work on a policy of attrition with terrorist acts.  I see even ISIS is on the border today.

What is East Jerusalem?  "The Palestinian Authority defines "East Jerusalem" as every part of Jerusalem beyond the 1967 armistice line. "It is the very heart of Jerusalem.  This is what they want to tear away from Israel and the Jewish people. " Their capital would include:

1. The Western Wall-where Jews go to pray, Herod's retaining wall, also called Wailing Wall,  for Jews mourning for the ruined 2nd Temple.  Jews come here the first thing when in Jerusalem.  The custom is to leave a note in between the stones and to pray.  .

2. The Temple Mount-site of the 2nd Temple (Jewish)
       a.  The most sacred site in Judaism, where Jews had come to worship for centuries was this site of the 2nd Temple, destroyed in 70 CE by the Romans.  It consists of 35 acres on the SE corner of the Old City of Jerusalem on Mount Moriah.  It is a short stroll from the business districts of West and East Jerusalem.  Israel left the Mount in the Jordanian hands as a peaceful act.  However, the Moshiach is said to not come till the 3rd Temple is built, and this cannot be on this site as it is not in their hands.  Thus contention and fear have developed.  The 3rd Temple is to be built here over the 2nd Temple.

      b.  Also holds Al-Haram al-Sharif, 3rd holiest site in Islam and near its center is the Dome of the Rock, a gilded half-sphere from the octagonal base.  Muslims say Muhammad ascended to heaven on his nighttime journey from Mecca 1,400 years ago here on his flying horse.  He died in 632, even though  at that time of his death there wasn't any mosque there.  It was the site of the 2nd Temple that had been destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, and then  the Romans had built their temple over the site.  It wouldn't be till about 8 years later  after 632 that a temporary mosque would be built on this site.  Much later the final mosque would be built.

Temple Mount and Western Wall in Old City of Jerusalem
3. Ancient Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, City of David, capital of Israel in center of Judean Mountains., laying slightly east of the watershed between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, on the Eastern slope of a plateau.  The newer part of the city has spread across the watershed into a series of ridges and valleys facing west.   built by King David in 1010 BCE.  His empire reached from the Red Sea to the Euphrates River.  His son, King Solomon, enlarged the city by adding the Palace and the Temple.  Was capital till 586 BCE when Babylonians destroyed the Temple which would haves stood on the Temple Mount.

Mount of Olives
4. Mount of Olives (site of the oldest and largest Jewish cemetery in the world, the mountain extending east of Jerusalem, beyond the Kidron Valley.  It has 3 summits.  The 3rd is by the Hebrew University named Mt. Scopus, 2,684 feet.  King David worshipped on the summit.  Here it is said that Jesus wept over Jerusalem as well as many other events with Jesus.  The cemetery has been here at the foot of the mountain since the time of the 1st Temple built by Solomon.  the southern part of the mount was in Jordanian hands while the northern part was a demilitarized zone with the Hebrew University, and Hadassah hospital buildings under Israel sovereignty.  After the 6 Day War, the mount was incorporated into the united Jerusalem and universtiy campus and the hospital were rebuilt and reopened.  The Jewish cemetery had been extensively desecrated by the Jordanians.  It had to be restored.

5. Major Jewish urban neighborhoods of Jerusalem
     a. Gilo, population of 40,000 mostly all Jews,  most Gilo land had been legally purchased by Jews before World War II, much of it during the 1930s, and that Jewish landowners had not relinquished their ownership of their land when the area was captured by the Jordanians in the 1948 War, ..."From its inception, Gilo has provided housing to new Jewish immigrants from around the world. Many of those who spent their first months in the country at the immigrant hostel in Gilo, including those from Iran, Syria, France and South America, chose to remain in the neighborhood. Since the large influx of Soviet Jews in the 1990s, Gilo has absorbed 15% of all immigrants of that wave settling in Jerusalem."

French Hill suburb neighborhood in Jerusalem

     b. French Hill, population of 6,631 mostly all Jews, "In 1969, construction began on a new residential neighborhood to create a land link between West Jerusalem and the Hebrew University on Mount Scopus, which had been an Israeli enclave in Jordanian territory before the war. The official name of the new neighborhood was Giv'at Shapira. Another section of French Hill, Tzameret HaBira, was populated mainly by American immigrants."
     c. Ramot, "Ramot has a population of 70,000. Ramot Alon is an example of the demographic change in Jerusalem. When it was established in 1974, the population was 70% secular. Since 2000, Ramot Alef, Gimel and Daled have become partially Haredi, and the percentage of Orthodox Jews in all of Ramot Alon has risen to 75%.  Ramot is on the light rail transportation system.
     d. Har Homa, "Contrary to Palestinian claims, Har Homa is not in "traditional Arab East Jerusalem." It is neither "Arab" (most of the land was expropriated from Jews); nor "East" (it is in southern Jerusalem).Prime Minister Netanyahu unveiled a plan in October 2014 to build 1,000 new settlement units in Jerusalem: 400 in Har Homa and 600 in Ramat Shlomo.  In early November an additional fifty units were announced for Ramat Shlomo, and on November 19 fifty more units were announced to be built in Har Homa and nineteen more in Ramat Shlomo.  These areas are areas that Palestinians contest must be a part of their future state, and the announcement of these settlements has been met with extremely harsh criticism from the United States, the United Nations, and other international actors.  In 2013 they had a population of 25,000.
     e. Neve Yaakov," Established in 1924 during the period of the British Mandate, it was abandoned during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The area was captured by Israel in the Six Day War and a new neighborhood was built there, at which time international opposition to its legitimacy began....The population of Neve Yaakov is 30,000. Neve Yaakov is one of Jerusalem's Ring Neighborhoods"  that ring the old city.

We lost this part of Jerusalem, East Jerusalem,  when the handful of Jews in 1948 were fighting against Britain and Arabs.  Thought Emir Feisal, THE spokesman for Arabs in those days were all for Jews' returning, his nemisis, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem wasn't, and had been stirring up and causing Arabs to attack and kill Jews.  Abdullah I had just helped himself to Transjordan, and then Jordan by talking the Brits into going along with it.  Thouigh Britain held the mandate to create the Jewish National Home which included Transjordan/Jordan, they owed Abdullah, and went along with it.  going back on their word to the Jews and the League of Nations, for that matter.

Already on May 16th the Arabs were bellowing out their feelings about Israel.  Egypt was very vocal.  "The existence of Israel has continued too long.  The battle has come in which we shall destroy Israel."  They then demanded that the UN forces leave the area that had been there since 1957 and they left.

May 19th: "This is our chance, Arabs, to deal Israel a mortal blow of annihilation...." Cairo's radio kept reporting things like this.  May 27th and Nasser said, "Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel..."  On May 30th, Jordan's King Hussein placed Jordanian forces under Egyptian control.  Egyptian, Iraqi, and Saudi troops were sent to Jordan.  June 1st and Iraq's leader added his thoughts:  "We are resolved, determined, and united to achieve our clear aim of wiping Israel off the map." Cairo's radio blasted out with their hailing the impending MUSLIM HOLY WAR.

King Hussein of Jordan signed a defense pact with Egypt on May 30., 1967 Nasser then announced:
The armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are poised on the borders of Israel...to face the challenge, while standing behind us are the armies of Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nation. This act will astound the world. Today they will know that the Arabs are arranged for battle, the critical hour has arrived. We have reached the stage of serious action and not declarations.
President Abdur Rahman Aref of Iraq joined in the war of words: "The existence of Israel is an error which must be rectified. This is our opportunity to wipe out the ignominy which has been with us since 1948. Our goal is clear -- to wipe Israel off the map." On June 4, Iraq joined the military alliance with EgyptJordan and Syria.

Now, 1967 came along with Arabs still grousing over Israel's winning the 1948 war plus the 1957 war the Arabs had also started.  They wanted to finalize the end of Israel, once and for all.  It was an all out attack of all the Arab nations surrounding Israel.  Prime Minister Levi Eshkol sent a message to King Hussein of Jordan saying Israel wouldn't attack Jordan unless he initiated hostilities.  He did.  Jordanian radar had picked up  a cluster of planes flying from Egypt to Israel, and the Egyptians convinced Hussein that the planes were theirs.  Hussein ordered the shelling of West Jerusalem.  The planes were Israel's and were returning from destroying the Egyptian air force on the ground.   At that time, Syrian and Iraqi troops attacked Israel's northern frontier.  Surprising everyone, including themselves, after a week of fighting the Israeli forces broke through the enemy lines and were in a position to march on Cairo, Egypt, Damascus, Syria  and Amman, Jordan.  A cease-fire was invoked on June 10th.  Israeli paratroopers on June 7th recaptured the Old City.  They stormed it and secured it.  Moshe Dayan arrived with Yitzhak Rabin  to formally mark their return to their historic capital and their holiest site.  Rabbi Shlomo Goren, the IDF's chaplain, blew a shofar to celebrate the event at the Western Wall.

Israelis woke up to find that their IDF had conquered enough territory to more than triple the size of the area in controlled, from 8,000 to 26,000 square miles.  Israel had won the Sinai, Golan Heights, Gaza Strip and Judea-Samaria (West Bank) of Jordan River.  The victory also enabled Israel to unify Jerusalem to the way it had been.

This war came with a high price.  In the 6 days of the war, Israel lost twice as many men--777 dead and 2,586 wounded---in proportion to her total population as the USA had lost in 8 years of fighting in Vietnam. In 1967 Israel only had a 2.745 million population.
                                                        289,600 Muslims
                                                     2,383,600 Jews
                                                        103,100 Christians and others
TOTAL  POPULATION   2,776.300  Israel in 1967

All this fighting did not include any American aid.  They had tried to prevent the war through negotiations, but couldn't persuade Nasser or the other Arabs to stop their belligerent statements and actions.  Right before the war, Johnson warned;  "Israel will not be alone unless it decides to go alone."  The war began on June 5th and the State Department announced,  "Our position is neutral in thought, word and deed."  Again, Israel was all alone in their defense except from on high, Ha Shem.  Believe me, there were enough odd cases to make a disbeliever believe.

When Jordan attacked Israel on June 5th, 325,000 Palestinians fled.  They were Jordanian citizens.  One of the fleeing refugees became an administrator in an UNRWA camp in Jericho and said that Arab politicians had spread rumors in the camp saying, "All the young people would be killed.  The radio blared that this was only the beginning of the attack on Jews, so the refugees decided to stay in Jordan."  Many wanted to live in an Arab state, anyway.  They became the longest refugee status people in the world.  Jordan has since had their Black September War with these Palestinian Arabs and has incorporated them into Jordan.

Jerusalem was not to be divided.  Israel was not to be divided.  The Palestinians have it in their charter to destroy Israel.  They will never make peace nor recognize Israel.  They know it, and we know it.  It's the rest of the world who is in denial of this.  Why?  It means that prophesy is coming true after all.  For a world who has become very atheistic, this doesn't settle well.   They are in denial of these words said by the leaders of the Arab nations, words of war.

The UN's Security Council adopting Resolution 242 in 1967 didn't stop the Arabs from attacking in 1973 on Yom Kippur, did it.  Israel had to again prove themselves that they could defend their citizens and stop this next war by the Arabs.  The Arabs constantly show that they only intend to attack and not to make peace, so what is happening?  The countries uninvolved are making it easier on them by voting on Palestine.

And Joel said, "Announce this among the nations;  prepare for war;  arouse the mighty men;  let all the men of war approach and ascend.....Let all the surrounding nations hurry and come, and let them gather together;  there Hashem will demolish your warriors.  Let the nations rouse themselves and go up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations from all around....Egypt will become a desolation and Edom will become a desolate wilderness;  because of the robbery of the children of Judah, for they shed innocent blood in their land.  Judah will exist forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.  Though I cleanse, their bloodshed I will not cleanse, when Hashem dwells in Zion.    4: 9-18.  This means that Hashem will cleanse the nations by forgiving many of their sins, he will not forgive them for the bloodshed they perpetrated against Israel.  When Hashem dwells in Zion, that is, at the end of days, which many feel we are now in, nations will be punished for going against Israel.  Hashem is another word for G-d.(The Name).

Oh that's right.  Jews have been replaced by some Christian sects.  In the 2nd and 3rd centuries of the Christian church, Israel or the Jewish people and their land was replaced in the purposes of G-d, and the Christian church became the historic continuation of Israel by just excluding Israel in their belief system.  Jews in their eyes are not the chosen people anymore.  In their eyes we have no future, hope or calling in the plan of G-d, as laid out in the Tanakh/Old Testament.  We have lost, according to them, the promises made but must keep the curses from the Christians for rejecting Christ as who each of you thinks he was other than a young Jewish man.  So whatever the prophets said about Israel no longer means the real Israel fighting for its life and right to exist in the Middle East.  It's all convoluted to me.

Tricky Abbas and Jesus

Nadene Goldfoot

What tricky Mahmoud Abbas won't do!  He's now embracing Jesus as a Palestinian to garner political favor for his Fatah and Hamas Palestinians.  The Muslims of ISIS are going about slaughtering Christians in Iraq, and he is playing footsy with the public about his Palestinians.

Hamas Terrorist
Fatah Terrorists
For years now Europeans and much of the USA have been slurping up anything he says about his so called Palestinians as long as it is against Jews, but readers should know that Judah was called Judea by the Romans and then in the year 135 after a hard battle with the Jews led by Bar Kokhba of 3 years, called Judea Palaestina -Palestine after one of the Jewish enemies just to be nasty.  From then on, Jews and Arabs were Palestinians.  It wasn't a country of Palestine, it was the name of the area, soon to become part of other empires throughout the ages.  Up until May 14, 1958, it had still been called Palestine and people who needed a passport had Palestine stamped in it.

Jesus was born in about 4 BCE, and he would have been born as a baby of Judea.  It wasn't until the next century that the population in Judea would become Palestinians.

Yet, Abbas is counting on illiteracy and the uneducated to swallow his propaganda.  His own lack of Christian knowledge shows up when he doesn't realize that Christian tradition defines Jesus as a Judean.  Abbas and other Fatah leaders are selling such propaganda to their people, lying to them  that it is a historic fact that Jesus and his mother, Mary, were Palestinians and that Jesus was the first Palestinian Martyr as well as the first Palestinian refugee.

What we term as Palestinians today are different than what they were up to May 13, 1948.  Today the term, "Palestinian" has come to mean the conglomeration of Arabs that have amassed from all the surrounding lands of Palestine that had entered to live and find jobs with the Jews who were building  as well as the few who had lived there of Arab extraction. Most had called themselves Syrian Palestinians.   Arabs are Palestinians today.    Jesus was supposed to have been Jewish since Mary, his mother, was to have been Jewish and so was her carpenter fiance-and then husband, Joseph.

We have plenty of Jews who would dispute all of this since Jewish literature has nothing about Jesus.  Writings are from the New Testament and from Josephus, who saved himself in the war with Rome by turning around and becoming a journalist for them, so he wrote for a Roman audience.

One would be hard put to find anything about Arabs living in Judah.  All were Jewish  or Roman up to 70 CE when Rome destroyed the Temple and Jerusalem.  It was Rome who were the occupiers and had been for about 140 years.  Our last king of Judah was Zedekiah who was king from 597 BCE to 586 BCE.   when the Babylonians took large numbers of the inhabitants and deported them to Babylon.  .  They tried to perpetuate a subject state under Gedaliah, a former member of the Royal House but it ended with his assassination in 582.  The exiles who had wound up in Babylon continued to cherish their national and religious ideals.  Most were able to return and rebuild the Temple.

This year on Christmas, Palestinian leaders and officials spoke of Jesus as THE PALESTINIAN and THE FIRST PALESTINIAN MARTYR.    They've taken over Bethlehem, which used to be a Christian town. Bethlehem was the birthplace of David and was the background city of the Book of Ruth. Jacob's wife, Rachel was born here.   It later became the city where Jesus was said to be born.  From 1920 to 1948 it was under the rule of the British Mandate.  In 1948, there were 10,000 people living here of which 7,500 were Christians and 2,2500 were Moslems.  From 1948 to 1967 it was under Jordanian rule.  In the Six Day War of 1967 Israel captured it back and by 1968 had 32,000 people living there.   The population shrunk by 2007 to 25,266.  Christians were moving out as Muslims were moving in.  Christians in Bethlehem make up about 15% of the population today.  The rest are Muslims.

"The transfer of power of Bethlehem from Israel to the Palestinian Authority just before Christmas 1995 inspired a spate of articles on Bethlehem's diminishing Christian presence. They noted that the place not long ago was 80 percent Christian and is now but one-third Christian.  East Jerusalem has gone from 27,000 people in 1948 to 5,000 today who are Christians.

Suddenly Abbas cares about Christians when he grooms the listeners with "WE celebrate the birth of Jesus, A PALESTINIAN MESSENGER OF LOVE, JUSTICE AND PEACE."  Wafa, Dec. 22, 2014.

Living in Israel from 1980 to 1985, I remember going through Bethlehem on the highway from Safed to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.  Then, our IDF soldiers were on roofs guarding and watching for snipers.  It took but a few minutes to drive through.

Not so ISIS, an example of extreme radical Islam.  "Religious cleansing is taking place in Iraq at an astonishing rate—now accelerated by the brutal ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) attacks on the Christian heartland in the Nineveh Plain. On July 19, The New York Times reported that ISIS had banished the last Christian inhabitants of Mosul, their homeland for 1,700 years, and painted on their homes: “Property of the Islamic State of Iraq.” Christians were told, “Convert, pay the jizya tax or die.” ISIS replaced the cross from St. Ephren’s Cathedral with their own black flag."

How Abdullah I Got Transjordan and More

Nadene Goldfoot

What was Britain thinking during the period from 1917-1920 about the Middle East and the mandate they were holding for Palestine?  Most likely oil in Arabia.  A few might have thought of their Arab client states and a Jewish client state coexisting and cooperating under a completely British umbrella.  On December 2, 1917, Lord Robert Cecil had said in London at a large meeting, "The keynote of our meeting this afternoon is liberation.  Our wish is that the Arabian countries shall be for the Arabs, Armenia for the Armenians and Judea for the Jews.

Chaim Weizmann and Emir Feisal
Emir Feisal
Our Zionist leaders even helped the Arabs and the British in their diplomatic campaign at the Paris Peace Conference and used their own influence in Washington to urge Arab claims.  Emir Feisal wrote on March 3, 1919 to Felix Frankfurter and said, "Dr. Weizmann has been a great helper of our cause, and I hope the Arabs may soon be in a position to make the Jews some return for their kindness.  In other words, each was helping the other present their case for land.

Abdullah I, brother of Emir Feisal with both being sons of Hussein bin Ali, Sharif - Emir of Mecca, Arabia (Feb 1882-July 1951),.  Abdullah was Emir of Transjordan from 1 April 1921 to 25 May 1946.  "The country's name was shortened to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 3 April 1949.  Abdullah's family had been defeated in tribal warfare that had taken place on the Arabian peninsula and Abdullah had been left without a Kingdom to rule, as had Emir Feisal.  none of the countries that border Israel became independent until the 20th century.

Many other Arab nations became independent after Israel.  Why did Britain care?  Again, most likely the oil situation and having 2 kings that could back them.
Feisal and Abdullah's  father, Hussein bin Ali, had the throne for a short while in Arabia, from October 1924 to December 1925,  but lost it to the Saud family in 1925.  "He was the eldest son of Sharif Hussein bin Ali, the first modern King of Hejaz, and a scion of the Hashemite family. "Saudi forces finally overran Hejaz, which they eventually incorporated into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ali and his family fled to Iraq.
France wanted to hold the mandate for Syria and Lebanon and was granted control at the Paris Peace Conference.  However, the General Syrian congress offered the throne of Syria to Feisal so he was later installed in Damascus where he set up an administration.  Then the Supreme Allied Council in Paris granted the mandate over Syria and Lebanon to France, anyway.  In return, on July 1920, the French ordered Feisal out of the country.  Here Lawrence of Arabia and the Arab Bureau had worked very hard to get him that crown, so instead Britain offered the throne of Iraq to Feisal.  The Brits had wanted to give Iraq's crown to Feisal's younger brother, Abdullah ibn-Hussein, who now was left without a throne!

So, about Halloween  time of October 1920, Abdullah took some 1,500 Turkish ex-soldiers and Hejaz (Arabia) tribesmen, seized a train on the Hejaz Railway, and entered eastern Palestine which was Jewish territory.  Here he announced that he was on his way to drive the French out of Syria and called on the Syrians to join him.  Nobody replied. The inhabitants of Transjordan didn't heed his call, either, if there were any, that is.

Abdullah squatted in Transjordan waiting.  The British didn't know what to do.  Transjordan was empty territory of 90,000 square kilometers (35,000 square miles) that were estimated to be able to hold at the most, 300,000 people.  Most people around there were nomads.  The British were afraid that the French would now be angry and would invade the land.  So they told Abdullah to forget about Syria and instead be a representative of Britain in administering eastern Palestine (Jewish promised land-ancient Judea) on behalf of the mandatory authority.  Abdullah took up office in Transjordan and finally accepted it as a substitute.  Abdullah negotiated with Chaim Weizmann in 1922.

It finally hit the right British bureaucrat  that this was part of the area pledged to the Jews.  So the Brits sneaked in an insertion of an alteration in the draft writing of the mandate (not yet ratified by the League of Nations) which gave Britain the right to "postpone or withhold" the provisions of the mandate relating to the Jewish National Home "in the territories lying between the Jordan and the eastern boundary of Palestine as ultimately determined."  After all the meetings, and thinking everything was sealed and ready, the Brits pulled this change of heart on the Jews without any warning.  Think of it as buying a farm.  The realtor has filled in all the papers, you think you have bought the whole farm, paid the money,  and are just waiting for the deed, and then the realtor at the last minute sells all of the farm to another buyer except one outbuilding which you get instead.   This was not the promise made to the Jewish Zionists.  This was not the deal at all.

The Zionist leaders were stunned.  They just lost from 75% to 80% of their Jewish Homeland to Abdullah!  This was why Britain was granted the mandate for Palestine--to create the Jewish Homeland as voted by all the nations in the League of Nations.  The Brits were pretty sneaky about it, though.  Their government countered with the proposal that, if the Zionists now didn't accept the situation, they would decline the mandate altogether and withdraw her protection from the Jewish restoration.

Chaim Weizmann, Chemist
What were the Zionists thinking about and considering at this late hour in the deal?
1. Building a country out of a desert
2. Restoring a people, largely impoverish, from the 4 corners of the world
3. Being unequipped with political experience to judge the emptiness of the British threat.
4. Didn't feel strong enough to resist this blow to the integrity and security of the state or faith in the sanctity of compacts at this moment.
5. How they had been tricked by the 2-faced Brits.
6. So in need of their own land-suffering from pogroms in Russia, French anti-Semitism (The Alfred Dreyfus Affair in 1894) and England's expulsion of Jews for over 350 years from 1290 to 1655 and anti-Semitism, that they accepted the crumbs offered to them.  They already had Jews living in Western Palestine.  They would have to make room for more.

The claim to eastern Palestine (ancient Judea) was unanimously reiterated by the Zionist Congress in 1923 and remained part of the program of the Revisionist Party under Vladimir "Zeev" Jabotinsky and of the Socialist Achdut Avodah Party.

Abdullah invaded Israel in 1948 along with all the other Arab nations.  He formally annexed the Arab-held part of Cis-Jordan in 1950 and proclaimed himself ruler of the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan.  He tried to reach an understanding with Israel but this was nullified by the growing influence of the Palestinian Arabs.

Grand Mufti Husseini and Hitler
He was assassinated in Jerusalem  in 1951 allegedly at the instance of the former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini (1893-1974).  A mufti is a professional jurist who interprets Muslim law.  The Grand Mufti had been apppointed in 1921 in  this position by Sir Herbert Samuel, a Jewish English politician.  Samuel had also made him head of the Supreme Moslem Council.  In 1936 he was appointed as chairman of the Arab Supreme Council.  He is the one that organized the Palestine disturbances for which he was sentenced to exile in 1937.  He escaped to Lebanon and during WWII was in the pro-Axis coup in Iraq before going to Europe where he assisted Hitler and was largely responsible for the liquidation of the Jews in the Moslem areas of Bosnia.  In 1946 he escaped to Egypt.  In 1948, Haj Amin al Husseini, Mufti of Jerusalem said, "I declare a holy war, my Muslim brothers!  Murder the Jews!  Murder them all! "  After 1948, he set up a short-lived "Palestine Government " in Gaza and later did it in Cairo.

This is how Abdullah I became king of Transjordan.  The British manufactured the means and filched the land from the Jewish National Home by tearing almost all of it out of Palestine which has always been an integral part of our Jewish history.  From the empty wasteland that became a spearhead of the "Arab" onslaught on the Jewish state--this Emirate of Transjordan later expanded across the river Jordan and renamed the land as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

What are the Hashemites and why are they important?
  1. Hashemite (also spelled Hashimite), is the English-language version of the Arabic: هاشمي‎, transliteration: Hāšimī, and traditionally refers to those belonging to the Banu Hashim, or "clan of Hashim", an Arabian clan within the larger Quraysh tribe.  This is why Abdullah's father, Hussein bin Ali was Sharif and Emir of Mecca.

  2.  The Quraysh tribe were a powerful merchant tribe that controlled Mecca and its Ka'aba and that according to tradition descended from Ishmael.

  3. The Islamic prophetMuhammad was born into the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe. Supposedly they also carry the Arab line of the Cohen gene of Aaron, brother of Moses, which is J1 haplotype.  2nd hand information came to me that King Abdullah II has this haplotype. Hashemites claim descent from Muhammad's uncle, Abba bin Abd al-Muttalib, and Hashim ibn 'Abd Manaf who died in 511 and was Muhammad's great grandfather.  Although the definition today mainly refers to the descendants of Muhammad's daughter, Fatimah.  The Ydna haplotype of J1 can only be inherited by a man from his father, so the descendants of Fatimah did not get this J1 from her but if they carry it, it would have come from Muhammad's father, or uncles or male paternal cousins.
  4.   In his memoirs, Transjordan's King Abdullah wrote: "It is made quite clear to all, both by the map drawn up by the Simpson Commission and by another compiled by the Peel Commission, that the Arabs are as prodigal (extravagant, squandering, profuse) in selling their land as they are in useless wailing and weeping.  It seems he didn't do much to keep them happy, did he?  They were full of complaints and were leaving.

Lies and Broken Promises in the Israel-Palestine War

Nadene Goldfoot

Emir Feisal spoke at the Paris Peace Conference in February 1918.  He told his audience about the few train wreckings by his Bedouins but turned the story into an "advance of 800 miles by the Arab army of 100,000 men."  The actual truth was that his army of 600 men did move about 800 miles northward, but most of the advance took place only after the British, Australian and French forces, and later  the Jewish force, when they had already driven out the Turks.  He said they had 20,000 casualties but had taken 40,000 prisoners.

As it turned out, Arab casualties and Turkish prisoners were only in the hundreds.

Paris Peace Conference 1918

Most people do not realize that not all people on earth have been raised to tell the truth.  This seems to be one of the differences between the West and the East.  In this case, it was the West, the British, who encouraged and exploited the Eastern ways for their own ends when the occasion rose.

The Sherifian Arabs in the WWI and afterwards were allied with a British agent interested in the fabrication  of their own culture..  T.E. Lawrence was that man and he had found partners for  his historic adventure in telling lies.

This suited the British interests very well, for they held the mandate over Palestine.  A few of them were more interested in the vast oil deposits than they were in keeping their word.  They pulled the boner of the century by promising the same land to the Jews and the Arabs, and I suspect they figured the two of them could just battle it out.  It wasn't until 18 years later that the British Prime Minster, Lloyd George,  who had been present at Feisal's speech, described his numbers as "Oriental arithmetic."   The statement had already become the accepted fable as it was disseminated by the British and accepted by the world.  This was used as facts of the scope and impact of the "Revolt in the Desert."

"Lloyd George had told Edmund Allenby, who was appointed the new commander in Egypt in June, that his objective was "Jerusalem before Christmas" and that he had only to ask for reinforcements, although the exact nature of his offensives was still undecided when he was appointed. Amidst months of argument throughout the autumn of 1917 Robertson was able to block Lloyd George's plan to make Palestine the main theatre of operations by having Allenby make the impossible demand that thirteen extra divisions be sent to him.  Allenby captured Jerusalem in December 1917.  The Allies had won the 1st World War.  Palestine had belonged to the Ottoman Empire, which was part of the opposition or Axis that was mainly Germany.  By taking Jerusalem, the Allies had attacked the Ottoman Empire.  At the time, Lloyd George knew that Britain planned on turning ALL  of Palestine into the Jewish National Home.  Then again, it was Emir Abdullah who had helped them, so they also planned to not keep their promise and would give 75%+ of the land to Abdullah in payment for his fighting forces.  Britain naturally forgot that it was Chaim Weizmann who gave them his invention of making their ammunition as such  so powerful that they naturally would win the war by using it.  Chaim's Jews would wind up with 20-25% of their promised land instead of the whole piece.  So here we see the inclination of not keeping one's word or promise.  Broken promises seems to be as much a human failure as telling lies.  Who can one trust?  it used to be that that a man's word was all that was needed; a shake of hands and you  could trust them.  Not anymore.

This tendency to fabricate facts showed up in 1967 with the Arab view of the events.  Their report was but a minimal relation to what was really happening--with only the truth that a war was in progress and that its scene was the Middle East.  The Arab report was that American and British pilots and planes were attacking their airfields.  The fact was that the Egyptian Air Force never left the ground, but Arab reports were that they were attacking Tel Aviv, Haifa and Netanya.

The truth was that this 6th day saw the loss of 19 planes counting all fronts,  but according to Arab reports, Israel had lost 160 planes on the 1st day alone.  Arabs reported gigantic tank battles in the Sinai desert with huge Israeli losses.  Their report had come out 2 and 3 days after Israeli forces had ovewhelmed the mass of Egyptian armor.  At the same time, tens of thousands of Egyptian soldiers were giving themselves up as prisoners or fleeing toward and across the Suez canal.

Readers and TV viewers thought the war was going very well for Egypt and Jordan and badly for Israel.  They thought Haifa and Netanya were  burning down.  Most all was extreme exaggeration.  Truth was that about 20 or 30 Israeli planes had been downed, but Haifa nor Tel Aviv or any other Israeli city had been bombed or attacked by Egypt.  2 shells hit Tel Aviv from Jordan.  One bomb hit Netanya by an Iraqi plane.  Such was the Oriental imagination that has been developing over the centuries.

Arab reports were assisted by foreign news media who spread their news.  The Russians, who early on in May had given Nasser "unfounded information" which I would call downright lies that Israel had massed forces for an attack on the Syrian border.  Then Russia have their own enthusiastic shpiel about Israeli disaster.  As it turned out, they were completely deceived themselves and had delayed the call for a cease-fire by the Security Council because they didn't want to prevent the complete defeat of Israel!  Such was their thoughts that Israel was being defeated.  The British Broadcasting Corporation served as the center for the Arab information services, publicly repeating even the most improbable of their reports and severely censoring the only version of the events from its reporter in Jerusalem that was the truth.  Many hours after the officer commanding the Israeli Air Force told of the destruction of the Egyptian Air Force, British newspapers were still debating whether Britain could stand aside and see Israel destroyed.

When Egypt's President Nasser claimed that British and American planes had bombed the Egyptian airfield and that Egyptian planes had bombed Israeli cities, he was misleading the world and especially the Arabs and himself because his own military chiefs were lying to him.  He misled King Hussein of Jordan.  Hussein's decision to attack Israel and to persist in the the attack-even after the Israeli Prime Minister had begged him not to do it, was probably based on his belief in Egyptian reports of all the destruction in Israel going on.

In telling lies, it's always the case that the inventor of the story starts to believe it himself.  An example from Arab folklore is the following story:

A man whose afternoon nap was disturbed by the noise of children playing in the courtyard below went out to the balcony and called, "Children, how foolish you are!  While you are playing here, they are giving away figs in the marketplace."  The children rushed off to collect their figs, and the man, pleased with his invention, went back to his couch.  But just as he was about to drop off, a troublesome thought aroused him:  "Here am I, lying around, when there are free figs to be had in the marketplace!"

"A far more complex web of fiction has victimized the Jewish people."  Jews are people who have a history of telling the truth while Arabs have not.  Arab sociologist Sania Hamady wrote that lying is a widespread habit among the Arabs and they have a low idea of truth...The Arab has no scruples about lying if by it he obtains his objective...He is more interested in feeling than facts, in conveying an impression than in giving a report.  The Arab language, moreover, provides its users with the tool, for assertion (tarokid) and exaggeration (mubalong).  Then end result is that Arabs have colorful rules in communication.  Eli Shouby, Arabic scholar, wrote that "The Arabs are forced to over-assert and exaggerate in almost all types of communication, lest they be misunderstood.  If an Arab says exactly what he means without the expected exaggeration, his hearers doubt his stand or even suspect him of meaning the opposite.  Al-Ghazzali, 11th century Moslem theologian wrote:  "Know that a lie is not haram (wrong)  in itself, but only because of the evil conclusions to which it leads the hearer, making him believe something that is not really the case...If a lie is the only way of obtaining a good result, it is permissible....We must lie when truth leads to unpleasant results.

Emir Feisal wasn't told the story about Pinocchio, about how when he told a lie, his nose would grow long. "Pinocchio is a hero of the children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio, an animated puppet, is punished for each lie that he tells by undergoing further growth of his nose. There are no restrictions on the length of Pinocchio's nose. It grows as he tells lies and at one point grows so long that he can not even get his nose "through the door of the room. "   It didn't seem to hurt Feisal in any way visible.  He went ahead and made use of the modern mass media.  When his people told a story, others naturally tended to accept their version.  Many people were persuaded to believe that the Arab terrorist organizations were daring bands of partisan or guerrilla fighters, springing out of the Arab population of Palestine, determined to "regain their lost homeland and suffering from an alien and cruel occupation.by Jews."  They gave out the line that they fought day and night from the underground bases provided by the sponsorship of the "Palestine nation";   and that they engaged in occupying Israeli army units who always had superior numbers and  tanks and planes.  They bragged that they had destroyed so many and that many Israeli soldiers were killed.  Making people believe they were brave guerrillas who could penetrate the heart of Israel seemed to be too easy.

These terrorists who were PLO's led by Arafat had propaganda to spread. How anyone can picture Arafat as the romantic Arab fighting for his rights (he was born in Egypt) is amazing.  He's far from the 1920's Arab of romance novels.  "Oh the Sheik of Araby..."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofXvX5wtyY8.  "It was composed in response to the popularity of the Rudolph Valentino feature film The Sheik. In 1926, to go with the film The Son of the Sheik, Ted Snyder worked parts of the melody into "That Night in Araby", a related song with words by Billy Rose."

Well I'm the Sheik of Araby

Your love belongs to me

Well at night when you're asleep

Into your tent I'll creep.

Europeans and Americans are brainwashed into drama on TV or in books about liberation movements, underground or open of the past 30 years.  Little Israel's true facts of having had to wait for 2,000 years to regain by legal means their ancient land of origin, land given to them originally by G-d, with their whole history spelled out in the Bible-the Old Testament, seemed to the people on this planet nothing but a big fable. They would prefer to believe in Arafat's fables.   The true heroes for many Europeans today  are the PLO terrorists- turned into Hamas terrorists.  I wonder how well they are drawing the line with ISIS.

Today we have the same problems.  Lies are told by the Palestinians about their history and current situation and what they are doing with supplies, and people gobble up every lie they say as gospel truth.  The many Arab attacks, encouraged or permitted by the British from 1920 onward, gradually squeezed the majority of the Jews out of the Old City of Jerusalem and into the New.  In 1948, when their ammunition ran out, the final remnant and the handful of Jewish defenders surrendered to the Jordanians.  That was when the city was divided.  The Arabs had never attached any importance to living in Jerusalem.  Even when the Moslems ruled, for long period the majority was Christian.  After the middle of the 19th century, soon after modern Jewish reconstruction began, the Jews attained a majority when they have never relinquished.  Jerusalem had never played any part in the Arabs' political life, either.  When Damascus, Baghdad and Cairo were famous capitals, Jerusalem stagnated as a remote provincial townlet.  It never even served as a provincial capital, or a subprovincial capital which was an honor reserved for Ramleh.  It was never a Moslem cultural center.  No great school of Islamic lore was established nor any religious message proclaimed there.  To the Moslems, Jerusalem was backwater.  The Holy Places there were Jewish ones.  They only had it in their story that Muhammad had gone there to the "farthest mosque"on his flying horse and from there ascended to heaven, came down and returned to Mecca.  The only building he could have seen was  the Roman Temple built over the Jewish 2nd Temple, for even a temporary mosque wasn't built over the Roman Temple till after he had died.
