Rights of Palestinians in Territories (Gaza, Judea-Samaria) and Right of Palestinian Minority Citizens

Nadene Goldfoot
First Arab Miss Israel in 1999, 21 year old Rana Raslan
born 1977, model from Haifa, Israel
She also represented Israel at the 1999 Miss Universe beauty pageant

Rana Raslan describes herself as a "secular Muslim" in responding to accusations of Muslim fundamentalists regarding immorality – specifically in reference to the swimsuit part of the pageant.

First you should know that Israel has no death penalty.  Jews regard life as precious and are not people willing to cause death.  We have an over-abundant amount of doctors and nurses in our midst.  Israelis have been to the fence between Syria and Israel and give aid to the wounded, taking them into our hospitals.  What Middle Eastern countries believe in life as much as Israelis?  Only in a case as extreme as when Adolf Eichmann was convicted as a Nazi war criminal was there the exception to this rule.  The hardest penalty given is prison and exile.  One has to be involved in carrying out, planning, assisting or supporting terrorists or terrorist activities to wind up in prison.

This man got 14 years for smuggling explosives from
Hezbollah in Lebanon and planning an attack, from
Nazareth in February  2018
4 others from his village sentenced to 2 and 3 years for
security and drugs.

One sad note is that Palestinians serving time in prison for terrorism have been paid by Abbas of PA, head of Judea-Samaria's territory, to be just that, a terrorist.  This carrot is very tempting to these impressionable young terrorists.  They paid $350 million dollars in 2017.  The average income of a Palestinian is $580 per month, which is what the PA pays terrorists who are sentenced to three to five years in prison.  The PA pays terrorists who are sentenced to 20 years or more in prison – in other words, those who committed more severe crimes, and likely were involved in killing Israelis – five times that each month for the rest of their lives.  USA President Trump is trying to bring an end to this by cutting the funds the Palestinians receive from the USA.   “The PA pays over a billion shekels a year to terrorists and their families, thus encouraging and perpetuating terrorism.

2015: Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem opens new post office in Arab Jerusalem
High court rapped him over postal inequality
Had only 8 mailmen and 4 post offices for 300,000 people
West Jerusalem's Jews had 530,000 with 44 post offices.

Palestinian Arabs living outside of Israel that are not citizens, but are living in Gaza and Judea-Samaria (West Bank) have ready access to petition Israel's highest courts.  Though Hamas rules Gaza today, Israel received warnings from its own high court.  The court declared the IDF's conduct legal.  However, today they listen to their Hamas terrorist leadership and are doing things like trying to break the fence down and are burning Israel's fields with kites flying with fire.  They follow their Hamas charter to take Israel over.

One of the things that makes Israeli law stand out above other laws is the quick access that petitioners have to Israel's highest court.  This includes Palestinians, too.  In April 2002, during the worst fighting of the conflict going on then, the high court was receiving and ruling on petitions almost daily.  This was reported by the New York Times on May 5, 2005.

The Court is to judge by the merits of a case and often decides in favor of the Palestinians.  It did when Palestinians petitioned that the security fence be rerouted around Beit Sourik on June 30, 2004, and around Alfei Menashe on September 15, 2005.

The 1.7 million Palestinian Arabs living in Israel have equal rights, just like the Jews.

All IDF soldiers
Can you tell who is Arab and who is Jewish?

The only thing that distinguishes them is that they are not expected to serve in the IDF.   It was in 1948 when almost all of the 160,000 Palestinian Arabs who remained within Israel's borders became citizens.

This IDF soldier happens to be a Druze Arab
More than 53,000 in 1992.   live in Israel in 18 villages in Galilee,
and Mt. Carmel.  Fought with Jews since 1948.

All Arab municipalities receive government funding for education and infrastructure, at least by 1973.

Israeli Arab Knesset members have been known to vehemently criticize the Jewish State, even from the floor of the Knesset.  Only hate speech and incitement to violence are an illegal form of speech.

Israel has 9 Hebrew daily newspapers;  several dailies in Russian, Arabic, French and English.  It is a country that believes in reading.  There are over 1,000 periodicals;  multiple radio and TV stations and an easy access to the foreign press.

Israel's laws are most progressive which protect the rights of all minorities. What would you expect from a people who had pined for such protection when living in host countries and were always the scapegoat?  They've been the Dhimmis in Arab lands (2nd class citizens) Been there.  Done that.

Hebrew and Arabic are Israel's 2 official languages.  All signs are in both plus English.

By 1973 there were 5 Arab political parties.  Now there are 10 Arab satellite parties and I see 19 other parties listed. 3 Arab Israelis were elected to the very first Knesset in 1949 and have been maintaining an active role in political life.  They had won as many as 12 of the 120 Knesset seats in a single election by 1973.  In 1992, the Arab parties did not join the government but threw their support behind then-Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, creating a “preventive bloc” in exchange for his assistance in improving public services to Arabs. By 2015 many have united their parties.

In 2014 on first day of Hebrew University on campus of Gavat Ram
Arab students attending

More Arabs receive a college education than ever before 1948.  20% of Haifa University student body and 10% of the faculty were Israeli Arabs by 1973.  It has grown 78% in the last 7 years.

                           Religions

The Christian population is the only one in the Middle East that is growing instead of disappearing.  Between 1948 and 1998, it grew 4 times over from 34,000 to 130,000.

The Baha is a religious group persecuted in Muslim countries.  They have built its world center in Haifa, Israel.

Jews are complaining about the early 4am call to prayer for Muslims:" Benny A., a resident of Gilo, told the Post that the adhan had affected "hundreds" of people in his neighborhood as well.

"We hear it every morning. People get woken up, they can't go back to sleep, and then they show up to work just exhausted," he said. "What I don't understand," he added, "is that if this is a religion that says it preaches tolerance, why aren't they being tolerant here? I'm all for freedom of religion and I think they should be able to practice their religion openly, but when it comes to tolerance, they're forcing their religion into our lives, and we're their neighbors!""  These may be problems Americans never dreamed of.

"Israel has proved that for 50 years its real power is in its democracy, guarding the rights of its citizens, applying laws (equally) to the rich and poor, the big and small,...and in participation of the nation in the development of institutions according to ability and efficiency and not according to closeness to (the ruler)."
                 Dr. Talal Al-Shareef, Al-Quds newspaper, May 27, 1999
