Obama, the Eternal Optimist on Iran

Nadene Goldfoot

Fareed Zakaria interviewed Obama about the Iran deal this morning and concluded  after listening
to Obama's  shpiel  that he was an optimist and that successful people are optimists.  He also asked Obama if it has ever happened before that a foreign government interfered with the voting in Congress.  He, of course, was inferring about Netanyahu begging the senators to vote this Iran deal down.  Obama didn't think it ever had.  Fareed neglected to mention that the deal affected Israel the most and Israel has been left out in being able to speak about it.  It's Israel's life on the line more than even the USA.  One A bomb and Israel will be no more!

Thousands of rockets, mortars and missiles have rained down on Israel and only Israel is there to protect themselves, though the USA does provide money and weapons, but then they do this for their neighbors, too.  During the last attack of which Israel had to defend herself, Obama cut her off.  He called the shots.
Can Israel depend on the USA for protection which Obama mentioned?  He brought up that if Israel was in danger all the nations would come to her aid.  Umm humm.  After the fact, they would say something.  That's about all Israel can depend on, I"m afraid.  The USA has lost its stature in being a friend to come quickly to anyone's aid.  By the time Obama weighed all the pros and cons it would be far too late to help as already demonstrated with Ukraine or Syria

I'm afraid that Israel has learned not to be optimistic with countries for help.  Their optimism  remains only with G-d's help.  Jews were rounded up and transported to refugee camps to await death.

What German Jew in the 30s could possibly imagine a Holocaust coming on that would slaughter 6 million Jews?  Who in the cultured Germany could imagine man's hatred or ability to slaughter a whole people?  That's why 6 million were caught and slaughtered.  There were a few that weren't optimistic-Einstein for one, who left Germany before 1939 when it was getting impossible to leave the country.

"On 13 May 1939, more than 900 Jews fled Germany aboard a luxury cruise liner, the SS St Louis. They hoped to reach Cuba and then travel to the US - but were turned away in Havana and forced to return to Europe, where more than 250 were killed by the Nazis." I imagine the rest faced death as well a little later in the camps."  My own uncle sailed from Hamburg to New York on the SS Washington from May 4th to the 12th.  He made it exactly one week out before the next ship was doomed.

The Exodus, Jews needing to land and having no country to accept them.  "Exodus 1947 was a ship that carried Jewish emigrants from France to British Mandatory Palestine on July 11, 1947. Most of the emigrants were Holocaust survivors who had no legal immigration certificates for Palestine. Following wide media coverage, the British Royal Navy seized the ship and deported all its passengers back to Europe."
How about even if one had the money and papers to get out.  Where could they go?  Most countries, who Obama thinks would be Johnny on the spot to help Israelis, closed their doors to Jews.  I doubt if anyone could even be welcome in Puerto Rico!  Catholic countries wanted baptism papers.  Ha!  No, Jews cannot risk Obama's optimistic views.

SS Washington, my uncle's ship from Hamburg to New York, the last one
They have to have plans A, B, and C in case life doesn't go as planned.  If the Iran deal goes through what will happen to Israel; if it doesn't go through what will they do to Israel, how will Israel keep safe and what must they take steps to do?  Obama was asked what happens if the deal doesn't pass Congress and he has no plans.  He only visualizes it passing.  He believes, he says, everything will be hunky dory as it reads.

We can't forget the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who trusted Hitler and made a deal with him.  British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain was cheerfully greeted by Adolf Hitler at the beginning of a meeting on 24 September 1938, where Hitler demanded annexation of Czech border areas without delay.  The eternal optimist, Chamberlain trusted him.

I noticed in Obama's last statement that he thought Iran was middling country, not very dangerous.  The history of Iran-formerly not too long ago Persia, and Israel goes back to the Bible days, bad and good, depending on the ruler.  Iran and Iraq carried on a war lasting for almost 8 years, from September 1980 to August 1988.  I lived in Israel from August 1980 to November 1985 so was there to read Israel's newspapers.  It was on June 7, 1981 that Israel was forced to bomb Osirak, the nuclear reactor in Iraq near Baghdad.  Then Israel had to bomb Syria's nuclear site on September 6, 2007.  These countries would have used it first on Israel and then on their neighbors who gave them any lip.  Israel had to go it alone but knew they must in order to survive.  Then, they nipped them in the bud.  Today's Iran nuclear site is in multiple parts and has gained much ground.  It's not going to be easy to take out by anyone.  It's good that we have G-d on Israel's side.  Not many others are.  This middling country that Obama is not worried about or takes seriously is certainly bothering me!  Fareed, are you content with this optimism?  Are you the Why Me Worry guy?

  2. Yes, one of my DNA matches living in Israel read this one and said she wouldn't call Obama an optimist. She would have called him something else. I mentioned that this was what Fareed called him. He's being very nasty now coming down hard on Israel for defending themselves with the Congressmen about the Iran deal. Obama is NOT taking defeat in any which way on it. So September will be quite full, I am afraid. It's the start of the New Year for us, and it's heading for front page news. I think my brother was smart to head for the beach for a week's rest.
